Baume & Mercier Chronograph Watch

At the beginning of the 1920s, the company director William Baume joined forces with Paul Mercier. Together, they founded Baume & Mercier, Genève, in 1918. The firm soon became one of the most active in the field of wristwatches by offering remarkably balanced special-shaped models.

This 1940s Chronograph contains a Baume Et Mercier signed Landeron 48 movement. It is a hand-wound movement with 17 jewels, 18,000vph (2.5Hz) and a 42-hour power reserve. Landeron goes back to 1873, but it wasn’t until 1924 that the company produced chronograph movements of which over 3.5 million Landeron 48's were produced.

This example is finished in a stainless steel case with beautifully flared lugs. The dial has a crisp satin finish with subsidiary dials at 3 and 9.

The watch comes on a brown genuine alligator strap complete with a stainless steel Baume & Mercier deployment buckle which though dates later than the watch complements it beautifully.
